Nobel

Nobel

Sjoerd de Roos (1877-1962) is considered to be Holland’s first professional type designer. His typeface Nobel was created in 1929 for the Amsterdam Type Foundry as a response to Futura and Berthold Grotesk. It was successful throughout the country and was used in many Dutch mechanical typesetting companies until the 1960s.

Tobias Frere-Jones described the typeface as “Futura cooked in dirty pots and pans”

Tobias Frere-Jones created Font Bureau’s Nobel interpretation, and Cyrus Highsmith and Dyana Weissmann added its Extra Light fonts.

Ben BF on DIN
The subtle roundedness of the corners on each letterform are such a nice touch.
The condensed, bold version of DIN is really beautiful too.
It is one of my favourite heading fonts.
